Programs at My School Cooperative
We offer a range of part time options for students aged
2 ½ to 5. Our program runs 2 days, 3 days or 5 days per week. Nursery program: 9:05AM - 12PM Lunch & Extended option: 12PM - 2:30PM Sample lunch menu here. We follow the Toronto Separate School Board calendar and are closed for the following holidays: Thanksgiving, Winter Break, Family Day, March Break, and Easter Break. We close at the end of June and return in the beginning of September. Teacher Ratios As a licensed pre-school, we follow the guidelines established by the Ministry of Education. Each program has a ratio of 1:8 teachers to children. Our classes have a maximum of 24 students with 2 registered ECE’s and an assistant. As a co-op, we also have an additional duty day parent volunteering each day, increasing our adult:child ratio beyond ministry guidelines. |
A Day at My School
9:05 - Children arrive in the gated kindergarten playground for outdoor time.
Outdoor time is very important at My School, rain or shine. Our playground may not have a traditional play structure, but to us it is a space of endless play and wonder. Open ended materials invite children to use their creativity. It gives them the freedom to explore and notice the world around them.
10:00 - Transition to indoor free play time.
We believe children are capable and try to cultivate their independence and self-helping skills. With a little practice and patience, your children will surprise you with what they can do!
10-12: Free play time
Due to the importance of play to a young child’s development, our program has a lengthy, unstructured playtime. Children choose from the many activities available, while developing critical thinking, social and problem solving skills.
10-11: Snack time
We provide a simple nutritious snack children can enjoy during the morning.
11:40 Tidy up time
Children and adults help tidy up the classroom together. Team work is dream work!
11:50 - Circle time
We end the nursery program with a daily group time with songs and stories. We occasionally invite special visitors from our community to share their talents with us. We have hosted local authors, fire-fighters, and dance instructors to enrich the children’s education.
12:00 - Nursery program children are dismissed.
12:00-12:30 Lunch time
Children in the extended day program enjoy a catered vegetarian lunch. They chat, serve themselves, and generally eat heartily. Parents are often surprised to learn that their usually picky child happily eats green salads every day at school!
12:30-2:30 - Extended program
As a smaller group, children have the opportunity to do structured activities: science experiments, art projects and cooking as well as deepen their interests through free play.
2:30 - Extended day children are dismissed
